Being Single Minded

By Comrade Uche Goodluck Okonji JNR.

AS I am writing this article, I am 28 and truly understand the brevity of life. Listen my friend: life is indeed, very, very short, 50 years will soon pass you by like it was only a day. If you are not carefully, you can rush through 70 or even 80 years on this earth without any significant achievement. Do not trifle with your time and with your life.

Scaling Up The Home Budget

By Gloria Omoruyi

It is quite pertinent for couples to sit down now and readjust the home budget otherwise there would be a lot of fighting, quarrelling and shouting like the one I witnessed last week between Agnes a neighbour and the husband. The crux of the matter is that Agnes' husband refuses to eat with one piece of meat and Agnes' says she can't do otherwise as the cost of things in the market have gone high and the husband has not thought it wise to increase

Paying Attention To Your Bottom - Line

By Gloria Omoruyi

Perhaps it is because the bottom is behind us that it is so often neglected. We seem to pay plenty of attention to our face and hair, what is out of sight is another story! Too much sitting around, overweight and lack of activity are three good reasons why bottoms can look rather unattractive.

Landslide Renders 150 People Homeless In Anambra

A landslide, which occurred in Oko Community of Anambra, has rendered more than 150 people homeless.

The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Nwabufo Ijezie, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Awka.

He said that 15 buildings belonging to the affected people caved in as a result of the disaster, displacing and rendering them homeless, but that no life was lost.

Ijezie, who described the magnitude of the landslide in the area as very high, said the state government in conjunction with the Federal Government would intervene to curtail its destructive effects.

“We are intervening in the active, but deteriorating effect of landslide in Oko, which magnitude is very high,” he said.

The executive secretary explained that the state Governor, Mr Peter Obi, and some state and National Assembly lawmakers had visited the area to assess the extent of damage caused by the landslide.

Ijezie said that the visit would afford the legislators the opportunity to know the plight of the people and come up with the kind of legislation to address their helpless condition.

He said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had been informed about the tragedy and that efforts were being intensified to resettle the victims by building modest houses for them.

The executive secretary said that building materials such as roofing sheets, planks, roofing nails, bed sheets and food items had been purchased for distribution to the displaced people.

Ijezie announced that the landslide had also occurred in Obosi, Nanka, Ozobulu and other communities of the state.

He expressed appreciation to the various stakeholders both individuals and corporate organisations that assisted the state during disasters.
