By MIKE ASEKOME

On several occasions, we have called on the need for Nigerians to regularly re-appraise and re-examine the characters and personalities of those representing their various constituencies in the National Assembly, particularly those in the Lower Chamber - the House of Representatives. It is not everybody that puts on good cloths, drives good cars or lives in affluence wealth that has the integrity, character and charisma to be a leader.

In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness for accuracy of one’s actions.

Civil Service: Engine Room For Democratic Structure

By CHARLES I. SOEZE

The need for a virile civil/public service (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies- MDAs) in a democratic structure has always been evident. It became evident in the latter part of the nineteenth century when it was realized that there was need for a service that would be insulated from the vagaries of politics ...

Oshiomhole 2nd term: Lawmaker allays fear of non-performance

By DELE ENAIFOGHE

BENIN CITY – The member representing Owan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Pally Iriase has allayed the fears expressed in some quarters that the return of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for a second term as governor of Edo State might witness an abysmal failure in terms of projects execution and human capital development.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was re-elected governor of Edo State, having polled a total of 477,478 votes to defeat his closest rival, General Charles Airhiavbere of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 144,235 votes in last Saturday’s governorship election.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Monday, before leaving for Abuja, Hon. Pally Iriase said the “Comrade Adams Oshiomhole I know is a man of his words”.

According to the federal lawmaker who was the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), “the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that I worked with, will never renege in his promise to even do more in his second tenure”.

He noted that baring the constraint of funds, Comrade Oshiomhole would do everything he has promised he would do.

“You recall that in his current first tenure, he has surpassed the promises he made to the people and he is a man driven by a sense of history who is in a hurry to leave his name in gold in the history of the state and this nation”, Hon. Pally Iriase said.

He added that for a man who has the passion to outclass others in the politics of this nation, “Oshiomhole is not likely to renege on his promises, and I assure you that victory will never go into his head and he will do and even surpass what he has promised”, Hon. Pally Iriase assured.

He advised General Charles Airhiavbere, the defeated candidate of the PDP to be gallant in defeat by congratulating the winner of the July 14, 2012 governorship election, just as the ACN he said has striven responsibly to be magnanimous in victory, in order to move Edo State to greater height.

“I think we should help this democratic system to grow, even better by ensuring that when we see a free, transparent and credible election that was not tainted by any malpractice, we should always accept our defeat and congratulate our opponent, so that Nigeria will really move forward”, Hon. Pally Iriase admonished.
