BENIN CITY – At least, eight persons were killed by cultists who went on rampage in parts of Benin City, weekend.
Among the victims included a popular car wash owner at Upper Mission Road and one Jude whose wife recently put to bed.
It was learnt that the affected areas are Erediauwa Street, Off Upper Sokponba Road which recorded two casualties, New Benin where four lost their lives and Okhoro said to have witnessed two corpses since the trouble started last Friday.
Dependable source disclosed that the clash is between three rival cult groups as one had earlier engaged another in Upper Sokponba before some of its members in New Benin clashed with another arch rival in the area.
The fight, it was further gathered spilled over to Okhoro area within few hours after the clash began in New Benin.
The cause of the fracas could not be ascertained as at press time yesterday but investigation revealed that it’s not unconnected with supremacy rivalry.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Edo Command DSP Joseph Edogiawerie stated that two casualties were recorded at Erediauwa street as another person shot in a separate location had been hospitalized.
He stated further that the police had made several arrest since the unfortunate incident broke out.
