LAGOS – The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderanti Kayode on Friday urged officers in the command to shun bribery and corruption while discharging their duties.
Aderanti who spoke with newsmen said, that bribery and corruption dehumanised the officers involved in the act.
“I urge all police officers at all levels to shun bribery and corruption. Do not collect bribe that will bring shame to your family.
“Run away from all form of misconduct that will lead you and the command to disrepute.
“Bribery and corruption create an impression that you have lost your sense of decency completely,’’ he said.
The CP said that bail was free, stressing that any officer caught in the act of receiving money for bail would be dealt with.
“Stop extorting money from members of the public in the name of bribe, and stop asking money for bail, bail is free.
“It is very shameful and it won’t get us anywhere. I don’t see any good you can do with such money.
“I don’t want anybody to be arrested over this shameful act, because I won’t let such person escape it,’’ he said.
The police boss identified lack of effective communication as a major barrier for a smooth police- public. relationship.
“One of my visions is to break the wall between the police and the public by allowing free flow of communication and suggestions.
“Every policeman should ensure that he or she responds to distress calls at all times.
“We (police) must receive complaints from residents at all times without giving them excuses,’’ he said.
Aderanti also urged officers of the command to ensure that the state was free from crime during the yuletide.
“No form of robbery incident should be reported during this period,’’ the boss said.
