LAGOS – A transporter, Chinonye Ezechukwu, 26, who allegedly damaged the windscreen of a vehicle belonging to one Patrick Ifeanyi, has appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ezechukwu, a resident of No.32, Makanjuola St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos, is facing a charge of wilful damage to property.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 2 at No.30, Owoyemi St., Ajegunle, Lagos.
Iberedem said that the accused maliciously damaged the windscreen of a KIA vehicle with Reg. No. BJ 534 KRD, valued at N 40,000 property of Ifeanyi.
“The complainant said that he was told by his neighbours that some boys, who were harassing residents, had damaged the wind screen of his car.
“Patrick said his neighbours, who were there when the incident happened, said it was Ezechukwu who broke his windscreen.
“He said Ezechukwu was caught by some soldiers who were monitoring the All Progressives Congress election around the area,’’ Iberedem stated.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 348 prescribes two-year jail term for anyone found liable of willful damage to property.
The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till December 22 for trial.
