The French club will win Group F by avoiding defeat against Barcelona but the former Germany midfielder believes they have some way to go to become a contender
Paris Saint-Germain might make it to the quarter-finals or even the semi-finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League but they have no chance of winning it, says former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Dietmar Hamann.
“They’re not going to win it this season and they’re still quite far away from being contenders – a good two or three years yet,” Hamann told Goal.
The big-spending French team have threatened to do well in the past two seasons but were beaten on away goals in the quarter-finals on both occasions, first by Barcelona and then by Chelsea.
“It’s one thing buying all these players, but you need to form a team, too,” said Hamann. “Last year they lost to Chelsea when Chelsea were probably not in the same league as the German and Spanish teams.”
