MINNA – The Northern Traditional Leaders Committee on Polio has called on politicians not to forget the polio fight in their electioneering campaigns.
Alhaji Kyari El-Kanemi, Shehu of Bama, the Chairman of the Committee, stated this on Wednesday during a visit to Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State in Minna.
He said that the electioneering period should also be used to sensitise the public on the polio challenges.
“The grassroots politicians should also use this period to make people understand the need to embrace polio eradication programmes.
“ We will also be safe when polio is wiped out completely. We call on government of all tiers to collaborate with personnel on this effort.”
In his remark, Aliyu pledged to continue giving utmost priority toward polio and other injection preventable diseases.
“As the chairman of the northern governors’ forum, I will use my position to impress on colleagues to stand firm on polio eradication.
“I cannot say because Niger is polio free for the last three years to relax on general effort from neighbouring states,” he said.
The council was in Minna for its fourth quarter review meeting in conjunction with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
