Kano – Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC Gubernatorial Candidate in Kano State, has pledged to take inventory of genuine farmers in the state in order to empower them.
Ganduje made the pledge while speaking to newsmen in Kano.
Ganduje said the measure became necessary considering the proliferation of those he described as ‘’office farmers’’.
He said that fertiliser and other farm inputs would only be given to “real farmers’’.
“My government will ensure that agricultural extension workers are properly trained and special attention will be given to agriculture being the mainstay of the nation’s economy,” he said.
The aspirant also said that he would make tractor hiring services affordable to all subsistence farmers in the state, if elected.
‘’This is necessary in order to boost the agricultural potentials of the state and achieve food security,’’ he said.
Ganduje said his government would also place high premium on irrigation to avoid shortage of food after the usual rainy season.
According to him, the state is endowed with arable land where irrigation can be facilitated by employing modern farming techniques.
He said the initiative would go a long way in making the state the food basket of the North.
