Katsina – The Katsina State Government says it spent N63 million on the purchase of instructional materials and payment of instructors allowances for adult literacy programme in 2014.
Alhaji Ahmad Doki, the Executive Director, Agency for Mass Education, disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina.
He said that the government expended N50 million for the payment of instructors allowances across the 34 local government areas in the state.
The director said that N13 million was spent on the purchase of teaching and learning materials.
Doki also revealed that the government had purchased writing materials and 5,000 radio sets for distribution to adult learners.
“The instructional materials were distributed to adult learners in the three senatorial zones of Katsina, Daura and Funtua.
“The agency had enrolled about 120,000 adult literacy learners across the 34 local government areas of the state.
“The agency is currently operating 889 adult literacy classes that are being taught English and Hausa languages across the state,íí he said.
The director called on local government council chairmen in the state to establish additional adult literacy classes to enable the state to meet the target of literacy for all by 2015.
