BENIN CITY – The Chairman, Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, Edo State, Chief Eduwu Obasogie Ekahtor has called for calm among stakeholders, especially students and staff of University of Benin (UNIBEN) over the purported demolition of houses occupied by staff of the institution.
Chief Ekhator in a chat with The Nigerian OBSERVER in Benin City said he is particularly worried over the inflammatory statements from some persons during the face off over issue.
According to him, such inflammatory statements are capable of inciting violence as the issues involved are quite reconcilable.
He pleaded with the authorities and students of UNIBEN to shun acts that are capable of causing breach of the peace, the people had enjoyed over time adding that the long term effect of violence does no one any good.
The Chairman also enjoined the students to always maintain a high standard of responsibility which had often placed the institution ahead of others as a citadel of learning.
He however, commended the general public, especially those who toe the part of peace, in the maintenance of law and order in Edo State.
While assuring the people of a violence – free election in the state, he appealed to the electorate to come out enmasse to exercise their franchise in the February 14 and 28 elections as the state government has put machinery in place to ensure a hitch free exercise in the state.
