Abuja – The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retired), on Thursday urged members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain focused to the tenets of their profession.
Buhari made the appeal in a statement issued in Abuja by Mallam Garba Shehu, Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.
The statement was issued in commemoration of the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
“I urge you all in the armed forces to remain apolitical and focus on the ethos of discipline which is the hallmark of your profession,” he said.
Buhari condoled with families of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who lost their lives in various military operations.
The retired general said that the Nigerian military had accomplished much in building and ensuring global security and peace.
“This, they have done, in conjunction with the Armed Forces of other nations as was experienced in Congo, Sierra-Leone, Liberia, Lebanon and other areas,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated on Jan. 15 annually to honour fallen heroes and living veterans.
