BENIN CITY – Life Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), a leading non-governmental organization shall commemorate the 2015 International Women’s Day (IWD) across the country today, March 10, 2015.
In Edo State, the event will hold at the LAPO Institute for Microfinance and Enterprises Development, Uselu, Benin City, beginning at 10.00am
At the event, stakeholders in development will discuss the efficacy of economic empowerment as a catalyst for women’s financial independence, inclusion in decision making and participation theme: “Women Economic Advancement: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
Professor Christian Okogie, a development economist and chairperson, LAPO Board of Directors shall chair the occasion, with Dr. Nosa Aladeshelu, an educationist, a politician and advocate for the rights of women scheduled to deliver the lead paper.
The LAPO International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration would draw participants from development organizations, government agencies, academia, the civil society, LAPO members and other stakeholders.
Initiated in 1987 with a mandate to improve the social, health and economic conditions of women and other disadvantaged groups across the country, LAPO was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1993.
Over the years, the organization has demonstrated uncommon commitment to poverty alleviation through the implementation of innovative credit and non-credit empowerment programmes.
