SOKOTO – The Sokoto State Police Command has said it had arrested 135 suspected political thugs.
The newly-posted Commissioner of Police, Mr Salisu Fagge, made the disclosure in Sokoto during his maiden news briefing.
Fagge also said that the command had seized several locally-made weapons from the thugs.
“Even yesterday, we made such arrests and seizures in the metropolis and the tempo will be sustained.
“We will not grant any of them bail, while any of them indicted after our ongoing thorough investigations will be charged to court.
“We will charge them to court and they will be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others who may want to cause a breach of the peace,’’ he said.
The commissioner urged politicians and other stakeholders to play politics according to the rules and regulations.
He said the police would provide a level-playing ground to all the political parties to conduct their activities.
“We will not allow anybody across the 23 local government areas of the state to cause a breach of the peace in the name of politics.
“The police are battle-ready for the forthcoming elections and we are strongly committed to making the polls peaceful.
“So, anybody who may want to test our will and power will be made to face the wrath of the law,’’ he said.
