BENIN CITY – Two students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Benin (UNIBEN) have emerged overall best in automobile design during a visit to South Africa in October last year.
The students were part of the team selected in May last year from the department and sent to the Netherland where they competed in an international competition in automobile design.
The fest is a product of a collaboration of the Eco-Marathon team of the University with a technical team of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
The project co-ordinator, Professor Akii Ibhadode who briefed the Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN, Professor Faraday Osasere Orumwense during a courtesy visit, listed the automobile designs, by the students as ‘Apo Criuse 1 and II and the ‘Tukeluke 1’.
He disclosed that since inception, the team has recorded tremendous breakthrough in automobile designs in international designs.
Speaking on behalf of the technical team of SPDC, Mr. Harcourt Stanley appreciated the UNIBEN authorities for collaborating with the company and therefore sued for its sustainance, especially in the areas of research, teaching and innovations.
Noting that SPDC has be wonderful in its partnership, Mr. Harcourt appealed to the Vice Chancellor to continue to render every necessary assistance that could take UNIBEN to greater heights among the country of nations.
Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN on his part acknowledged the giant strides of SPDC both in national and the international level and therefore urged the oil prospecting firm to be more committed in assisting the Eco-Marathon team and the students to succeed in research and innovations.
