BENIN CITY – The Snr. Special Assistant on Neighbourhood Watch to Edo State Governor and Chairman, Akugbe Ventures, Comrade Tony Kabaka  Adun has refuted media report linking him to the Saturday’s attack on the Assistant Editor of The Nigerian OBSERVER, Comrade Tunde Eigbiremolen at a voting centre in Benin City.
In his reaction yesterday in Benin City, Tony Kabaka said the Assistant Editor was actually attacked due to mistaken identity.
Tony Kabaka said the attackers were supporters of one of the leading political parties in the state who were at the centre to keep an eye on members of opposition parties who were said to be plotting box snatching.
According to him, his attention was drawn to the scenario by the commotion which trailed the attack on the Senior Journalist.
Consequently, he said he demanded the identity of Comrade Eigbiremolen who said he was a journalist covering the Saturday’s election, but had to cast his vote at the centre where he registered before continuing with his official job.
According to Kabaka, “it was at this point, I asked him to leave the centre peacefully to avoid further embarrassment”, having regard to the nature of his job.
However, Eigbiremolen  insisted that he never violated any law before Tony Kabaka ordered his boys to attack him.
He maintained that he had only gone to the polling unit where he registered to cast his vote when he was suddenly attacked by some boys on the orders of Tony Kabaka who kept asking “INEC dey vote?”
He added that even when he sufficiently explained that he was not an INEC staff but a Journalist with his reflective media jacket and cap, his explanation fell on deaf ears.
