BENIN CITY – The Acting General Manager, Bendel Newspapers Company Limited (BNCL), publishers of The OBSERVER title, Rev. Monday Aigbe has assured the Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Edo State office, Barr. Alari Felix of adequate publicity of events concerning the commission.
He gave the assurance while receiving members of the PCC led by the commissioner who were on courtesy call to the Corporate Headquarters of the BNCL.
The Acting General Manager advised them to feel free to approach the organisation for necessary publicity that would enhance effectiveness of the commission in the discharge of its responsibilities to the people of Edo State.
In his remarks, the commissioner said “the issue of publicity is a continuous process as citizens are unaware of the commission’s mandate to assist them.”
The Commissioner enumerated that some of the cases handled by the commission are without charge and informed the management of BNCL that they have resolved thousands of complaints since the inception of the Commission in 1975.
He further said that “members of the public take laws into their hands and are suffering in silence because they are unaware of the Commission’s mandate and how they can be assisted in solving their problem.
The public complaints commission established in 1975 is saddled with the responsibility of checking maladministration in the local government, state government, federal government, ministries and agencies and any company incorporated in Nigeria.
The high point of the event was a presentation of the PCC Acts CAP P. 37 LFN 2004 to be kept at the BNCL’s library.
