BENIN CITY – Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has reaffirmed the promise that qualified Youth Employment Scheme (YES) workers who were laid off, will be reabsorbed into the State Civil Service after going through the established procedures.
Prof. Ihonvbere gave this assurance yesterday in Government House while receiving a delegation of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Employees, Edo State Council, who came on a courtesy visit.
He stressed that YES was an intervention scheme, and that the decision by the state government to lay-off the workers, was to enable government restructure, reorganise and ultimately absorb them into the State Civil Service properly.
The SSG noted that the State Government was not getting value for money completely, because some of the YES workers were not working, and some had travelled out of the state and were doing other jobs.
He thanked the delegation for showing interest in the work of the administration and noting that Edo State is one of the few states that are able to pay salaries and equally promised that issues raised concerning water pipes in areas were road constructions are on-going will be looked into by the state government.
State Chairman, Amalgamated Union of Public Cooperation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees. Edo State Council, Comrade Julius Erhauyi, said their visit was to appreciate government on prompt payment of salaries to workers in the state and to appeal to government to monitor the regularisation process to ensure that already existing, dedicated YES workers are considered first and absorbed into the State Civil Service.
