LAGOS -The Lawmaker representing Epe Constituency II, Hon Segun Olulade, has charged people living in riverine areas and waterfront communities in Lagos State to report activities of bunkers and criminals to the security agents in the State without fear.
Olulade while briefing newsmen in Lagos noted that activities of hoodlums using Lagos waterways constitute menace to the security of residents in the riverine areas and communities located on the river bank particularly Epe, Badagry, Ijede-Ikorodu, Ojo, Apapa and others. He said the criminal activities ranging from bunkering, kidnapping and robbery through water ways are posing dangers to the lives of people in the communities and that residents should wake up to support government in its efforts to eradicate such criminal activities.
The Lawmaker also said except the dwellers of the areas help government with viable information, the criminal activities might not be curbed easily. In his words, Olulade said: “the community people know who bunkers are because it is their community. Residents should put aside whatever benefit bunkers offer to lure them into keeping silent because that does not help them in the long run”. He added “we have seen instances where residents harbour bunkers for paltry benefits but I tell you it does not pay in the end. Bunkering is illegal and criminal; they should inform government and safe their communities from criminals”.
Olulade, speaking further, said residents should also be wary of suspicious movements around their communities, stressing that waterways crimes can be reduced to barest minimum if government received right cooperation from the people.
He stressed further that the rate at which criminals use waterways recently is on the increase and endangers innocent lives. He assured that information provided for government on security issue is safe.
In conclusion, Olulade called on investors to take advantage of tremendous opportunities abiding with Lagos waterfronts and invest for a prosperous economic benefits that will serve the government and investors altogether.
