Benin city – In its determination to restore cleanliness to the streets and market places, officials of Edo State Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities have commenced the removal of traders selling on the walk-ways.
The officials led by the commissioner for Environment and Public Utilities, Prince Clem Agba visited some markets including Agbado Market, Oba Market and New Benin Market as well as Mission Road commercial environment.
During the operation of ensuring a clean market environment and clean street and road, wares displayed on the walk-ways were confiscated and make-shift structures that were erected illegally were destroyed to restore the beauty of the streets and city.
As the Environment and Public Utilities Officials continued their work, they met the state Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Isimeme Iriogbe who also led another team of his ministry’s officials on their separate undertaking to ensure smooth human and vehicular traffic.
Speaking with newsmen, the Commissioner for Environment and Public Utilities, Prince Clem Agba said the exercise is in fulfillment of the warning earlier issued by the state government that street trading on the walk-ways would no long be allowed in order to make the streets and city beautiful and display its modern aesthetics.
He therefore warned traders to desist from trading on walk-ways stressing that confiscated wares would be destroyed.
