UKHIRI – No fewer than 600 rural dwellers including pregnant women and children at Ukhiri community and its environs in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State have benefited from free malaria treatment offered by the state government.

The exercise sponsored by the wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs. Iara Oshiomhole through her pet project “We Care Trust” focus Initiative for children in the state in collaboration with “Associacion Bernadette Strebel World Peace” in Europe, was to capture people in the rural area, particularly the children.

Leader of the Medical team from Switzerland, Dr. Tobia Lembe at the weekend told The NIGERIAN OBSERVER that they were in the state on a salvage mission to achieve a malaria- free community in the state.

Mr. Lembe, who was accompanied by Bernadette, Mr. Elmer Grief and Mrs. Anita Csrullia, disclosed this during the visit to the agriarian community where members of the team also sensitized the people on safety health tips.

The Enogie of Ukhiri community, HRH Godwin Osayande Aigbe, urged the people in the surrounding communities to take advantage of the laudable exercise initiated by the wife of the Governor, as it was an initiative that put love and care for them.

He urged his kinsmen and women to take the campaigns to achieve malaria free society to the hinterland and advised the people to avoid stagnant water around their vicinity not to be vulnerable to mosquito bites.

The Health team however moved to Ehor in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state for a similar exercise were they were received with a rousing welcome, even as they prayed for the first lady of the state, Mrs Iara Oshiomhole.

Meanwhile, the visit of Associacoin Bernadette Strebel World Peace for the free malaria project to her Excellency was facilitated by the Commissioner of Environment and Public Utilities, Edo State, Prince Clem Aigba.
