Port Harcourt -Four Police Officers attached to 30  Mobile Police Force,  MPF,  of the Nigerian Police  , Yenagoa , Bayelsa State were  in the early hours of Monday killed  by unknown gunmen  at Okobie, in Ahoada west local government area of  Rivers State.

Okobie is a community where over three hundred people were roasted to death when a 33,000 capacity tanker loaded with fuel exploded and caught fire about three years ago during the administration of former governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Rivers State Police Command Public Relation Officer, Ahmad Muhammad who confirmed the deadly incident in Port Harcourt yesterday  said the Police  Officers were on their way to Yenagoa when they were ambushed by heavily armed  men whose identity  are yet to be identified.

In his words, “We are deeply pained by the senseless and barbaric killing  of our colleagues attached to 30 MPF , Yenagoa, who were ambushed in the early hours of yesterday  at Okobie enroute Yenagoa”,

“Today’s  tragedy again demonstrated the enormous calamities we face and witness in the course of our job. We put our lives on line every day to confront crime and violence in our communities”.

Mohammad said that the Command will stop at nothing to bring the killers of the Police Officers to book.

Communities in Ahoada had come under gunmen attacks where scores of people were killed. In a recent incident about 19 persons were killed at Ula-upata in Ahoada west local government area of the State by gunmen suspected to be cultist.

Our source in Ahoada who also confirmed the killing of the Policemen said that some cult groups had on Friday written a letter warning all non-indigenes of Ekpeye kingdom to vacate the area before May 16 as they were going to unleash terror in the kingdom.

The source also stated that there has been exodus of people leaving the entire Ahoada Town in droves for fear of being cut in crossfire.

“These boys have vowed to do anything to attack the ‘royal boys’. Just last Friday, they sent out a warning that the non-indigenes should leave the area before the 16th of this month. They have promised to deal seriously with the other boys who are loyal to the Monarch”, he said.
