Abuja –    The House of Representatives yesterday urged thee federal government to make urgent releases  from the ‎ecological fund to the state of Osun, and other states affected or threatened by flood.

The House also mandated it’s  Environment, Emergency /Disaster Management to liaise with  ‎the Ministry of Environment and relevant agencies to promptly execute flood control projects.

The representatives while considering a motion of urgent national importance, sponsored by the member representing Ede North, South / Egbedore/Ejigbo federal constituency, Hon. Mojeed Alabi, noted that some flood prone states must initiate precuasionary measures towards preventing flood.

According to Alabi, source of livelihood of the victims of recent flood in the state of Osun have been terribly paralysed. This according to him necessitated immediate intervention by a way of emergency financial and material reliefs.

“The alarming devastation attributable to the perennial incidence of flooding in Nigeria. And it’s suffocating impact on the nation’s farmland, human habitation and sources of livelihood, with the attendant deleterious impact on accruable revenue for developmental purposes.”

Alabi added that the early warning notices released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NIMET) and the annual flood outlook of Nigeria Hydrological Services   ‎Agency (NIHSA) suggested that about 11 states of federation were prone to flooding.

The House however urged the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA) to fast track the ‎processes of making essential relief materials to the victims of recent flooding in the state of Osun and other affected states.
