BENIN CITY-Police in Edo have arrested a 20-year-old man alleged to have murdered and robbed a commercial motorcyclist at Okomu community in Ovia South-West local government area of Edo State.

The suspects, Safas Afa from Benue State was among 31 suspected criminals paraded by Edo State Police Command over alleged offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, illegal possession of firearms, community crisis to murder.

Narrating how he hacked his victim to death and collected his motorcycle and phone which he intended to sell in nearby community at N160, 000 disclosed that he used a cutlass to cut the man in his neck.

“On the third of November, I told my friend, Aniete Okon to carry me with his bike to the farm.

“On our way I saw a cutlass inside rubber plantation, I told him to stop, I collected the cutlass and cut his neck, took his bike and phone.

“As I was taking the bike to another village to sell, Okomu security held me at the gate, I am a rubber taper Sir”. The suspect stated.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo Mr Haliru Gwandu paraded the 31 suspects along with some arms and ammunition at the state police command headquarters in Benin City, yesterday.

COMPOL Haliru stated that the suspects were nabbed at the different locations across Edo State following a tip off and special security measures put in place recently.

He called on members of the public to assist the police with information that would enhance security of lives and property in Edo State.

Mr Gwandu specifically commended efforts of the State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Cultism, Anti-Kidnapping, Monitoring Unit, State Safer Highway and Federal Safer Highway as well as other tactical units in the command for the achievements so far recorded by the police in Edo.

Also paraded were Osayande Efosa, 40, Solomon Oghele, 42 and George Aihuekhian, 29 who admitted to have been defrauding unsuspecting passengers by telling them that they have large sum of dollars in their booth.

One Kabiru Suleiman who claimed to be an HND one, Computer Science student of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State and admitted to be a renounced member of Leo Black Movement, was also among the suspects.
