EKPOMA- There was tension in the university town of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, following the gruesome murder of a community woman, Margaret Odiamehi, by suspected Fulani Herdsmen.

The victim, a grandmother, was allegedly raped and killed while working at her farm in Ukpenu Community.

Her killers allegedly slit her throat and left her in the pool of her blood in the bush.

The victim’s corpse was found by by a search party, mobilized to search the bush when she did not return home at the end of the day.

Following the incident, youths of Ukpenu Community, embarked on a protest, venting their anger on Hausa commercial motorcyclists, leading to a motorcycle belonging to one of Hausa riders been set ablaze.

The protesters took their protest to the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma and the headquarter of Ekpoma Police Division, where they were respectively addressed by the monarch and Divisional Police Officer.

The protesters similarly marched through major streets and mounted road block on the popular Ukpenu Road, forcing the Hausa cyclists to stay of duty for the day.

Meanwhile, Edo state government has urged the police and other security agencies to urgently fish out those behind the attacks on the rural communities.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu gave the directive on behalf of the state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki when he paid a condolence visit on the families of late Margaret Odiamehi, who was reportedly murdered in her farm by suspected herdsmen on Tuesday.

The deputy governor was accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police and Director of DSS and was received by the oldest son of the diseased widow, Mr Joseph Odiamehi who explained that they found their mother dead in the farm after waiting beyond the expected time for her to return.

while addressing members of the Ukpenu community in Ekpoma at the residence of the deceased, Hon Shaibu urged the people, especially hunters to assist government and the police by providing useful information that could lead to unmasking the criminals.

Comrade Shaibu who said that government was very concerned about the sad development called on the local communities to be very vigilant and report strange persons to security agencies.

“This is a very sad story and we sympathize with you. The governor got the sad news less than three hours ago and asked me to come immediately. We assure you of government commitment to eradicating the menace.”

“No matter what we do now that can replace the loss,but I pray God to give you the fortitude to bear the loss”, he said.
