The ruling political party in the country, the All Progressives Party (APC) has cautioned the splintered opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop denigrating sacred institutions in the nation they so desperately want to govern.

According to the Chairman of the APC in Edo State, Mr. Anslem Ojezua, it is irresponsible and quite unfortunate for the PDP to try to desecrate all the institutions in Nigeria, in its misguided pursuit of the inordinate ambition to grasp power, which it misused for 16 years.

The APC also described the state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, as either mischievous or ignorant over his comments about the Edo Central Hospital project in his press conference in Benin City yesterday.

“It is quite unfortunate that the PDP does not seem to know where politicking should end and where patriotism and commitment to nation building should begin.

“In Edo State for example, how can a party be so unpatriotic in its remarks about the institutions that serve our people, which they mostly set up in the first 16 years of our democracy when they held sway.

“Was it not under the PDP rule that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gained its prominence in this country? Was the PDP not the party in power when most of the institutions in the country right now, were mostly given life? Now just because these institutions in their integrity and commitment to truth have decided to stand on the side of justice, the PDP has decided to call them out and denigrate them. In my view this is extremely unpatriotic,” Ojezua said.

The Edo APC chairman was responding to comments made by the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, implying the Supreme Court and other judicial institutions in the country are incompetent.

In his comments published by various media outfits in the country, Orbih suggested that the Supreme Court and all other institutions in the country like INEC, the Appeal Court and the Elections Petitions Tribunal were incompetent in their judgments that Obaseki is the rightfully elected governor of Edo State.

The Edo PDP chairman in a press briefing had stated that Obaseki who in November 2016 was sworn in as Edo governor after being declared the winner by INEC, and whose election has been validated by all the judicial arms of the country is “not the right person to occupy the office of governor”.

Ojezua further chided Orbih, stressing that his statement about the Central Hospital project was made either out of ignorance or mischief.

According to him, the policy to drive the operation of the Central Hospital is being put together and has not been released and so there is nothing to criticize.

He added that the former governor, Adams Oshiomhole, ran the most transparent government and so there is nothing to hide.

“In any case, if they are very convinced of their allegations, then instead of just making baseless statements in the media, they can as well go to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ask for the matter to be investigated,” Ojezua said.
