Fifteen persons lost their lives yesterday in a fatal auto crash involving a 14-seater Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus at Abaji, in the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Eye witnesses’ account indicated that the bus belonging to one of the popular transport companies and fully loaded, had taken off from Benin City, somersaulted severally following a burst tyre before ramming into a stationary truck.
The driver they said tried to stabilize the vehicle after one of the tyres burst, but couldn’t before he lost control of the vehicle.
Six of the passengers and the driver reportedly died on the spot while the rest victims according to the vehicle’s manifest which included members of one family namely, Mrs. Janet Osagie Ezomo and her nephews and Niece, Esosa Okungbowa, Osariemen Okungbowa and Uwa Okungbowa died on their way to an undisclosed hospital before help could come their way.
All victims’ remains were said to have been deposited in an undisclosed morgue in the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, cited over speeding and bad road as possible cause of the crash.
