Benin City – Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu accompanied by his wife, Maryaan,on Saturday evening paid a condolence visit to the home of Lawrence Okojie, the NTA Benin reporter who was shot dead by unknown gunmen a week ago.

Shaibu told the young widow, Aisosa that the visit was at the instance of Governor Godwin Obaseki, assuring her and other members of the family that the killers of Lawrence will never go unpunished. The late Lawrence was shot dead few meters to his house shortly after alighting from the NTA staff bus and putting a call to his wife that he was near the house. The widow who was heavy with pregnancy gave birth to a baby girl five days after the sad incident.

Hon Shaibu assured the wife, Mrs Aisosa Okojie, of government’s commitment to track down the killers of the NTA reporter and bring them to justice.

He also congratulated Mrs Okojie for welcoming a baby girl five days after the death of her husband.
He advised her to look up to God for solace in the fact that God is the husband of the widow and prayed God to grant her late husband eternal rest.

” Be strong to be enable to take care of your children. Mr Governor is concerned hence he asked me to let you know that government is doing everything possible to fish out those behind the untimely death of your husband even if that can not bring replace the huge loss”. Shaibu assured.

A family member, Mr Innocent Nwaekwu, who spoke for the family thanked the deputy governor and his wife for the visit, adding that his visit means that the state government have them in mind.

Nwaekwu however appealed to the governor to consider Mrs Okojie for employment, adding that she just concluded her second degree to enable take care of her two children as the late husband was the pillar of the family.
