BENIN CITY – Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Rt. Hon. Paul Ohonbamu has expressed the state government’s commitment to strengthen the government-owned print medium Bendel Newspapers Company Limited, publishers of The OBSERVER titles for optimally performance to compete with other national dailies.
The Commissioner made this known when he paid a working visit to familiarize with the tabloid publishing house in Benin City yesterday.
He explained that Governor Obaseki’s grand design is to reward Edo people with constant happiness, which he stressed could only be effective with the help of the media.
According to the Commissioner, “OBSERVER came to represent the very essence of our existence. So, the Governor will not do anything to undermine, or derogate on the potency of OBSERVER.
While appealing for the truth and reality in The NIGERIAN OBSERVER reportage, he further urged BNCL Staff, “we should continue to educate the people. Education is key. It liberates. It will deliver anybody. We must impart positively.”
Hon. Ohonbamu emphatically expressed optimism in the quality of man power at the company’s disposal adding that giving the impetus, The OBSERVER titles can compete favourably with any standard newspaper in Nigeria.
The Commissioner explained, “No matter the good works the government is doing, if it is not brought to the table, the homes of the people, they may not know.”
Rt. Hon. Ohonbamu, who was conducted round the print medium by the General Manager of BNCL, Rev. Monday Aigbe, accompanied by other management team, implored the management and staff to take dissemination of information to the public, including information on government activities, with seriousness.
The General Manager of BNCL, in his remarks thanked the commissioner for the visit, saying that the visit would spur the company management and staff to put more efforts to their duties.
Rev. Aigbe added, “You have gone round and see for yourself and your words have been very encouraging.”
In the Commissioner’s entourage were principal officers of the Ministry, “including the Permanent Secretary, Barr.
