Benin City – Concerned by the inability of most clubs to easily secure away victory in the Nigeria football leagues, the Deputy Governor of Edo state, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu has challenged players of Bendel Insurance football club of Benin to work hard to break the jinx of away match by beating their next opponent in Lagos.

Hon Shaibu was Speaking in an interview with newsmen,watching the match between Bendel Insurance fc and Nnewi united of Anambra which ended in favour of the Benin side at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium,Benin city.

The Deputy Governor who congratulated Insurance players for their victory, urged them to maintain the same winning mentality when playing away matches.

He said Governor Godwin Obaseki was happy with the victory, and urged them to win away matches to enable them gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“You guys played well but could not convert most of the scoring chances and I believe you can do better than that. I urge you to give us away victory in Lagos against First Bank FC. You know that only home wins can’t guaranty our promotion. So, we must work hard to break that barrier to be sure of promotion. That is what the Governor wants now. So, I urge you to make it happen in your next game”. Shaibu stressed.

Benedict Akpom secured three points for Insurance after 84 minutes of the game as they pipped Nnewi united at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

Insurance FC Head Coach, Roland Ewere, commended his team’s performance throughout the 90 minutes of play despite the first half penalty his boys threw away.

On his part, Head Coach of Nnewi United, Agbana Ademola, commended the fighting spirit of his players, admitting that they lost to a better side.
