BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said his administration will re-designed the basic education system for sustainability saying it will improve the learning environment to produce the best minds that will develop the state and the nation at large.

He made this known while delivering his opening speech at a one day basic education stakeholder’s forum held in Benin City the Edo State Capital yesterday.

Obaseki said all must be involved and show concern in the education of children as this is a changing world which driven by knowledge and technology. He said the failure in the system could be attributed to all in the society who have one way or the other contributed to the decline in the education system, particularly basic education.

He credited the success of some leaders today to the quality, sound and effective basic education foundation they received. “The foundation of the success achieved today by some of us can be attributed to basic education. We have attained this height today because we were properly taught”.

He stressed that when the basic education system was contaminated, corrupt and compromised, an irreparable distortion and imbalance system is built such that all suffers and pay dearly for such actions.

“The future of our socio-economic growth and advancement depend on how well we prepare our children for the challenges of the 21st centuries. Our children need a solid educational foundation particularly basic education foundation to properly fit into the technological era we found ourselves. Our emphasis is on teachers training and professionalism.

“Teachers that are not Information Communication Technology (ICT) compliant and can not expand their horizon are what we have in our classes. These types of teachers produce pupils with weak foundation who find it difficult to cope with life challenges. We have to provide our children with good quality education ensuring that basic education is accessible and affordable to all in the state.

“Indolence, absenteeism, indiscipline, sabotage and other action that contribute to the decay in our education system will no longer be tolerated. Those who feel incapable with our reforms, you can asked for redeployment or retirement”.

Obaseki said his administration will ensure that pupils and teachers receives the needed attention as teachers that go above and beyond the call of duties to put our children’s learning at the very best will be rewarded.

He said the state will re-enact basic education to build upon what works in the past in other to give pupils the opportunity to excel in life. He added that every school in the state will receive on interventions or the other in terms of teaching aids, teachers, structures etc.
