Benin City – Edo state Deputy Governor Rt Hon Philip Shaibu has stressed the need for peaceful coexistence among communities in Edo state,especially those having land boundary disputes .
The deputy governor was speaking through the Deputy Chief of staff, Hon Kingsley Ehigiamusor during a meeting of Edo Land Boundary Dispute Committee with delegations from Ivbiaro, Warake communities of Owan East Local Government and that of Auchi in Etsako West Local Government both from Edo North.
He urged all the warring Edo North communities over land boundary to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign,assuring that the Boundary Demarcation Committee would soon visit the areas, adding that status quo should remain.
“We want Edo people to be at peace with each other. We therefore urge our traditional rulers to continuously carry out their primary role of promoting peace before government action on the disputed areas.”
He also appeal to the community leaders involved to cooperate with the Boundary Demarcation Committee when they visit their communities and as well forward whatever documents or White paper as regards the dispute areas within two weeks from now.
The representatives of the three communities, Alhaji Yaya Dirisu(Auchi), Mallam Alhassan Ikheloha and Alhaji Sufianu Igbafe of Iviaro and Warake(Owan East LG) respectively said they want the dispute resolved amicably, assuring they will respect government decision.
They however called on the state government to expedite action so to bring the lingering land dispute to an end peacefully.
