Benin city – Edo state Deputy Governor Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has asked the traditional rulers and people of Imiaba and Avianmou not to allow the disagreement between them over farm land degenerate to blood spilling conflict.
Hon Shaibu gave the advice yesterday during a meeting of Edo Boundary Dispute Resolution Committee with the representatives of the two warring Edo North communities led by their traditional rulers HRH,Yakubu G. Ugbodaga, the Ohiola of South Uneme clan and HRH, Jackson Etokhana, the Ogie Anyamu of Avianmu.
According to the deputy governor,no disagreement or land dispute is worth spilling the blood or taking the life of neighbours for.
“We called this meeting based on the petition we received on issues bothering on land dispute between you and as a responsible and responsive government we must be proactive hence we want to help you to resolve the issues without any party being hurt. And in doing that, the two traditional rulers here and their subjects have big roles to play.
” Firstly, we must remember that we have no power to create land but only God who also created all of us. So,we must be all be honest and have the fear of God by respecting His commandments that we should love our neighbours as we love ourselves. If we do this and leave at peace with each other, no one would be singing war songs and that will definitely attract development to our environment. “Teeth and tongue do have misunderstanding but it does not make one to force the other out of that same environment. “He advised.
Having listened to both parties, the deputy governor told the traditional rulers that the matter is easy to settle, but that it is in their hand. He appealed to them to be honest in handling the matter.
He tasked the two traditional rulers and the Head of Local Government Administration of Etsako Central to go back and discuss within a week to give feedback on the way forward.
