BENIN CITY: The Edo Development and Investment Group, a Non Governmental Organisation made up of Edo indigenes mostly based in the United States of America says it is ready to partner the state government in the areas of agriculture, health care, information and technology, education, transport and security.

Dr Daniel Omofuma, stated this when he led other executives of the NGO on a courtesy visit to the Edo Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki at Government House in Benin on Tuesday.

Omofoma said that the NGO was ready to harness and engage the intellectuals, financial and entrepreneurial capacities of Edo citizens to support the state government in sustainable programmes for the overall development of the state.

He listed some of the NGO’s programme as the raising of the Edo Diaspora Fund of about $20,000,000 (N7 Billion) to be invested in key development areas for the transformation of the state.

He said that the NGO was also working on the implementation of the Edo Crime Alert System and street addressing and resident registration to update the existing system of identifying every street and building around the state.

Responding, governor Obaseki appreciated the Edo group for its zeal to contribute to the development of its motherland.

Obaseki said that the state was already mapping the state for effective town planning and urged them to liaise with Mr. Frank Evbuomwan, the head of the Geographic Information System with whatever proposals they have.

He urged persons in Diaspora willing to partner the state to first do a background check on needs of Edo state people before presenting proposals.

“I hope that before the end of the year, on our website and portal, you will see everything on how we intend to deal with each area and you will know how to assist.”
