Asaba – Governor of Ekiti State and chairman Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governor’s forum, Mr Ayo Fayose yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to face governance squarely and deliver the gains of democracy to the people, saying Nigerians are not only hungry for food but also for development.

While congratulating the President on his return from his medical leave in London, he said, “We are happy that President Buhari is back, it is a welcome development but Nigerians are hungry, they need food, they need development.

The governor who spoke after a brief meeting with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) Nyesom Wke (Rivers) Ayo Fayose (Ekiti) and Secretary, PDP Caretaker Committee, Senator Ben Obi in Asaba enroute Anambra for the PDP governorship primaries at the Asaba international Airport reminded the President and the APC government that PDP knows what is right for Nigerians, democracy is strengthened by opposition, APC should face governance squarely and give Nigerians democratic dividends now or never”.

He however assured members of his party of fairness, transparency and Justice in party affairs, adding that Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party are committed to working together with the Party leadership with a view to repositioning the party and eventually winning the 2019 national election.

As consolidation on the gains of the last People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Non Elective Congress in Abuja continues, he said that the leadership of the party is re-strategizing to ensure success in future elections, and assured that the unity and reconciliation of party members would bring political gains in 2019.

“This is a new beginning for our party, it is part of the effort of our party to ensure due process and that everybody gets justice, with the calibre of men in this our National Committee you can be rest assured of transparency, justice and fairness.” He said.

Meanwhile, Scores of Ado Ekiti residents trooped out to the streets on Monday to celebrate the return of President Muhammadu Buhari to the country after his medical vacation in London.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that rallies were held on major streets of the state capital with sympathisers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) leading the rally.

NAN also reports that the crowd which included artisans and commercial motorcyclists marched from the Oke Iyinmi to the APC secretariat chanting various songs.

The placard-carrying coalition created a traffic gridlock on the Ado Ekiti -Akure road as well as at Ijigbo and Ajilosun areas of the state capital.

Addressing the rally, the APC Acting Chairman in the state, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, said many residents of the state were happy over the president’s return.

“His return will rekindle the war against corruption and insurgency while boosting efforts to end economic recession,’’ she said.

Olaleye also assured APC supporters in the state that the forthcoming party primaries in the state in preparations for the 2018 governorship poll would not be manipulated.

She said the party’s candidate would emerge through the unanimous vote of party members.

“We are happy that God has shamed those who thought President Buhari won’t return alive.

“We are solidly behind President Buhari even beyond 2019,’’ she said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Mr Tunji Ogunlola, commended Nigerians for praying for the president’s recovery.

He pointed out that their prayers had helped the medical team to achieve success in his treatment
