BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki said politics is not about amassing wealth and power for yourselves to oppress the people but about living a life of service to lift the downtrodden in the society.

He said this during the one year anniversary thanksgiving service organised by Christians Prayer/Contact Committee for Godwin Obaseki held in government house in Benin City the Edo State Capital.

Obaseki said power is not for the powerful but needed to uplift the downtrodden in the society. “I don’t need to acquire power to show that I am the most powerful person in the state and use such to oppress the people. Power is needed to correct all the anomalies and make life better for the people of the state”.

He said God in his own definition of politics in his teaching never taught us to be wasteful in politics but to use political power to uplift the downtrodden in the society. “Political position is not needed to waste scares resources but to judiciously use it for the benefits of the people”.

Reading from the book of Psaml 91: 1-6, governor Obaseki said thanksgiving is not a day’s event but should be a way of life.” Thanksgiving should be the way we live our lives to affect the lives of other people. Thanking God means doing what we believe we have been elected to do for our people”.

The governor thanked the Christians Prayer/Contact Committee for a job well done as their effort has paid off. “I want to thank you people for the job you have done in the past one year in praying for the success of the party in the election” he concluded.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Christians Prayer/Contact Committee for Godwin Obaseki Pastor Eghosa Omuruyi thanked God for the journey so far and for prayers answered. He said the group which was inaugurated on 10th of August 2016 has stood in prayers for the success of Mr. Governor in the 2016 election and the success of his administration thereafter.

“Our objective was to mobilise all Christian for the success of the party in the election. We succeeded in mobilizing over 250 pastors for the endorsement of Obaseki and Shaibu. We will continue to show commitment for this administration of Mr. Governor through prayers.

The high-point of the event was prayer section held for the governor and a presentation of plague to him.

In a related development Mr. Godwin Obaseki attended the 90th birthday celebration of his aunt Deaconess Victoria Ijemudia who he described as an encyclopaedia of the Obaseki family as she can comfortably provide any one with useful information concerning the Obaseki family.

Paying tribute to her the governor said she is a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart that does not conceive evil against anyone. He said she has affected his life positively as she has always pray for him.
