BENIN CITY- Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution calling on the State Controller of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), to appear before the Parliament to brief the people of the State on plans for the rehabilitation of the Benin-Agbor road which passes through Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the State on a date to be communicated by the House.

The resolution also urged the State Ministry of Works through the Edo State Rapid response Agency to, as a matter of urgency, carry out repairs on the failed portions of the Evbuobanosa-Oza-Igbanke with emphasis on the only connecting bridge on the road before it collapses completely.

The adoption of the resolution followed the consideration of a matter of urgent importance raised by the member representing Orhionmwon East Constituency, Hon. Nosayaba Okunbor on the failed portion of the Evbuobanosa –Oza-Igbanke road in Orhionmwon Local Government Area with reference to a bridge on that road that has caved in.

The Lawmaker representing Orhionmwon East Constituency said that the Benin-Agbor road, Benin –Auchi and Benin-Abraka, all of which Pass through Orhionmwon Local Government Area have all been seriously affected by the worsening dilapidated road condition of the Evbuobanosa-Oza-Igbanke road.

The lawmaker who commended the present administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the area of massive rehabilitation of access roads in the state, said that rehabilitation of these roads and bridges would ease the evacuation of food and cash crops from the interior communities to the respective markets.

“The rehabilitation of these roads will go a long way in ameliorating the untold hardship on the people,” Hon. Okunbor, added.

The Lawmakers in their contributions all agreed that the state government was doing enough in road rehabilitation and that the rainy season was slowing down the pace on-going rehabilitation works.

It was unanimously agreed that some of the failed roads in the state which transverse across Federal roads need the attention of the Federal government.

The speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto in his submission commended the effort of the state government in the rehabitation of all bad roads in the state, adding that the rehabilitation work will improve when the dry season sets in.

The resolution on the rehabilitation of the Evbuobanosa-Oza-Igbanke road also urged the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to as a matter of urgency carry out palliative work on the failed portion of those roads to avert looming disaster.
