Benin City – Determined to succeed in the task of ensuring that the state records 100 per cent universal coverage target in the ongoing distribution of free Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets, the Edo state Deputy Governor and chairman of the state committee on Rollback Malaria Campaign, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu began monitoring of the exercise.
According to Hon Shaibu, the monitoring exercise became necessary following reports of issues in some distribution centres .
He said the present administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki is determined to surpass the achievement of 20 percent recorded by past administration in net distribution across the state, hence the mandate to ensure that every household gets the net to combat the mosquitoes that spread malaria.
While sensitising the people in Akugbe street, near Oliha market, one of the distribution centers in Benin he visited, the deputy governor called on the youth of the area to allow smooth distribution process, warning them that government will not condone any youth disturbance that could affect the success of the exercise in the state.
” The net is meant for every family, especially children and pregnant women who are susceptible to malaria, so if anybody (youth) disrupt the process and are able to arrest you consider your self having trouble with the state government and no body will beg for you. Be warned.”
He advised that there is no need for anybody to drag or cause any unnecessary hiccups as there are enough of the net to go round the state.
Some of the recipients of the net commended the deputy governor and government for their sincerity and honesty in the replacement exercise especially now that it is being distributed free of charge unlike before.
