ABUJA- A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old scavenger, Ibrahim Bala, to 12 months imprisonment, without an option of fine over possession of a weapon.

Bala who resides at Jabi village in Abuja was also convicted for becoming a nuisance to the public.
The convict, who was caught with scissors at a hideout, had pleaded guilty to the two counts and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that a team of vigilante group led by one Aliyu Madaki of Kado Biko village in Gwarimpa, apprehended Bala at a criminal hide out on Oct. 10.

According to the prosecutor, the matter was reported to Gwarimpa Police Station on the same date.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections? 397 and 319 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, stressing that the sentence was to serve as deterrent to other offenders.
