LAGOS- Lawmakers in Lagos House of Assembly have appealed to job seekers to investigate advertised jobs. This followed a motion moved on the floor of the House during plenary by Hon. Abiodun Tobun. Representing Epe constituency 1. Tobun therefore called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the state commissioner of police Edgar Imohimi, department of security service (DSS) and the Nigeria telecommunication commission to commence investigation on advertisement placed on walls. Hon. Tobun also advised commissioner for environment to scrutinize adverts on walls and ensure they are eradicated.

Hon. Sannai Agunbiade also appealed that state should commence investigation on numbers displayed on walls to curb kidnapping. He also called on the Nigerian Telecommunication to monitor scammers on internet, saying most of the adverts are traps to job seekers. Also speaking, Hon. Sola Giva said “people should ascertain the kind of e-mail they receive”. He lamented that when money is involved in offer of jobs, people should be careful. Giwa advised that job seekers should tell parents when they are called for an interview. In the same vein, Hon. Akinde who was a victim of advert trickster narrated, “In 1998 when I was seeking jobs, I fell into the hand of fraudsters. They asked me to pay 5,000 to an agent before they offer me a job”.

He opined that National Security Agency can help track down fake job providers. He also advised people to get Lagos state advertisement Agency approval before attending interview for advert placement. While Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho disclosed “I received text inviting me for empowerment programme” explaining that people fall victim of job scammers.” Hon. Akande also confirmed that he has received fake text inviting him for an interview, then to be asked to pay 5, 000 before getting the job. He appealed to Lagos state government to be proactive and eradicate fake job adverts both on walls and internet.
