ABUJA – Senate of the Federal Republic yesterday, urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to restore the security aides of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state.
They also urged the Senate Committee on Police Affairs to follow up and report back today at plenary.
Gov. Obiano had alerted the nation that his life was in danger following withdrawal his ADC and other security aides.

In his comment after the question was put, presiding Senate President Bukola Saraki noted that the action of the IGP was not an instruction from the FG.

He therfore urged that it should not be blamed on the presidency.
Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha had raised a point of order on the IG of Police withdrawal of the Anambra State Governor’s security aides.

He asserted “there must be a level playing ground for all the aspirants and wondered why the governor under immunity will lose his security aides.”

He also promised visiting the Aso Rock Villa to discuss the matter with President Mohammadu Buhari, with a view to calling the IGP to order. His presentation was “noted” by the Senate President.

Apparently unsatisfied Sen. Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti) urged that the matter be discussed under Order 42 and 53 of the Senate Rules, to allow for a Senate Resolution on the matter.

“It is wrong for the IG of Police to withdraw the security aides of a sitting Governor; this as an ominious sign of things ahead.

The Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Reps even the President of the Federal Republic could have their security aids withdrawn in the 2019 general elections, if this issue is not redressed now” Sen. Olujimi stressed.

When the question was put, the eyes carried the day.
The IGP had earlier explained that Gov Obiano’s security aides would be restored after the governorship elections.

“The withdrawal of the ADC was based on the previous experience the police recorded whereby the military caught an ADC to an unnamed governor escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on Election Day.

“We do not mean anything bad to Anambra governor on this action; his ADC will be returned to him early Sunday morning after the governorship election on Saturday Nov.18.

“We have equally withdrawn all the policemen attached to political appointees, Local Government Chairmen and others in Anambra till after the election,’’ he said.
