BENIN CITY-Gunmen have again killed another lecturer at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Benin City.

The lecturer, Dr. Omofunmwan Godwin Osaro, 51, of the department of Vocational and Technical Education, UNIBEN, was shot dead at his private residence in Isihor, Benin City, last Monday night.

His gruesome came barely three months after Prof Paul Otasowie of Electrical Engineering department of the institution was similarly murdered in Benin City.

According Emmanuel Omofunmwan, son of the late associate prof the gunmen shot his father and mother when they broke into their home as his father died instantly while his mother was rushed to the hospital.

He said the attack woke him up about 12 midnight as their generator was on during the operation.

When our reporter visited the house at 3, Roland Crescent, Off Asemota Street, Isihor quarters, Benin City, yesterday, the burglar proof at the entrance was dismantled as sympathizers throng the family residence.

The hoodlums were said to have carted away jewelries, phones and other valuables from the house.

However, the spokesman for UNIBEN, Mr Osasuyi Michael described the incident as sad for the university, saying that the deceased was a dedicated lecturer.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in Edo State Mr Johnson Kokumo has paraded some suspexted criminals and the corpse of a member of the armed gang that killed the associate professor.

The phones of the late associate prof and other valuables were recovered from him.

He was killed in another robbery operation in neighborhood of the associate prof few hours after his gang unleashed terror on Dr Omofunmwan and his household.

According to CP Kokumo ¨the command recieved a distress call about the activities of armed robbers in the area this morning. Policemen from Ugbowo and surrounding Divisions were deployed to the scene to engage the robbers.

¨ In the ensuing gun battle, one of the marauders was shot dead, while others escaped. Sadly, one Dr Godwin Omofunmwan, a lecturer in the Department of Education, UNIBEN died as a result of gunshot wounds he recieved from the robbers.

¨The deceased three phones and another nokia phone robbed from one Precious were recovered from the dead robber¨.

Items said to have been recovered from the dead suspect included one single barrel gun, iron cutter, one live and 12 expanded cartridges, torchlight, a pair of black jeans and a bag.

Also, Edo Compol has raised an alarm over alleged misuse of policemen attached to VIPs in the state and directed all persons to whom policemen are deployed as escorts or guards to report to the police headquarters with letters of authority for verification.
