BENIN CITY – Edo state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, has stated that, without prayers the police can not perform effectively.
CP Kokumo stated this yesterday, during the New Year Prayer Service at the Edo State Police command headquarters in Benin city.

The service was organised by Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Edo state.
The Edo CP who was represented at the occasion by the officer in charge of operations at the command, DCP Ayo Olatunji, expressed appreciation to CAN and PCRC for their prayers towards the Nigeria Police.

On her part, one of the organizers, Edo PCRC chairman, Evang Atekha Odemwingie, said, the theme of event, “Except The Lord Watch Over The City”, was apt considering the challenges of the police force in the discharge of their duties.
Evang Odemwingie added, it is only through God that Edo state can be effectively policed and also only through prayers that the officers and men can be protected.

However, the Catholic Archbishop of Benin, Dr. Augustine Akubeze, commended the Edo police command for their effort in the release of the earlier kidnapped Reverend sisters.

The Catholic Archbishop of Benin who was represented by the Parist Priest, St. Thomas Aquinas, Venerable Father Richard Ofere added that, the prayers of the Church and efforts of the police secured the release.
Present at the event were CAN president, DPOs, Heads of PCRC in the various police divisions, amongst others.
