Health they say is wealth. This is a truism that can’t be contested because aside shelter, food and other basic necessities of life that contribute to the existence of man on earth, health plays a vital role in the life of everyone, as our accomplishments and fulfillment depends on the state of our health as only a healthy person can plan for tomorrow.

Overcoming obstacles and everyday life challenges facing the human race majorly depends on one’s state of health as it affects our minds and way of reasoning as such health plays significant role in our lives and can’t be under estimated.

One of the health problems facing the world today in this 21st Century is that of obesity or overweight which has assume a silent killer position as it is the door way to other illnesses.

It increases your risk of major health problems. People who are overweight or obese are more likely to have diabetes, stroke, cancer, gallbladder disease, gallstones, osteoarthritis, breathing problems, depression, heart and kidney disease and a host of others.

Overweight means when a person weighs more than the healthy range for his age, gender, and height. Weight that is higher than what is considered as a healthy weight for a given height is described as overweight or obese. Body mass index or BMI is used as a screening tool for overweight and it can be corrected medically through a surgery called GASTRIC BYPASS.

In this part of the world as Africans, we consider Obesity or overweight as a sign of good living as we see them as people who are well fed and for obvious reasons envy them and want to be like them but unknown to them that overweight is a health problem that requires solutions.

Overweight is a serious health challenge facing the entire humanity today and series of medical challenges and eventual death can be traced to it and yet people don’t see it as a problem to be obsessed, overweight, fat or big.

World Health Organization (WHO) put the statistics of the world’s population that will be overweight in 2030 at 2.16 billion and fear that the health challenges that will be faced by the over 8 billion people in the world will be enormous and tasking to health officials.
