BENIN CITY – The Commissioner of Police in Edo State CP Dan Malam Mohammed has directed all area commanders to intensify visiting round of police stations in their domain to forestall reoccurrence of attack on Afuze divisional police headquarters, Owan East local government area of the state on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

The police chief stated this while hinting our reporter of proactive measures the command adopted at the wake of the unfortunate incident.

He explained that his directive was to ensure tactical enforcement of an existing operation order of the IG that all police stations across the country should be fortified against such ugly incident at Afuze.

“We have been telling them for long, it is the directive of the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu that before we guard anybody we should first guard ourselves.

“So this one is like a wake up call, everybody should be at alert. The operational order is already there, so anybody that violates it does so at his or her own risk.

“But in other to forestall reoccurrence in other stations I have directed all the area commanders to embark on visiting round of stations and increase patrol of those areas”. CP Dan Malam remarked.

Armed men had reportedly attacked the police station about 8pm killing the DPO one SP Tosimani Ojo and three other officers who were on duty.

Also killed were a pregnant police sergeant identified as Justina Aghomon, Inspector Sado Isaac and corporal Glory David.

Two vehicles belonging to the DPO and his 2ic parked at the station’s premises were set ablaze by the rampaging armed bandits.

It was further gathered that some suspects in the station’s cell were allegedly freed by the gunmen.

The hoodlums were said to have also attacked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the town where they reportedly destroyed vital materials.
