UDO- In continuation of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) service and human capital empowerment, the Management of Rubber Estate Nigeria Limited (RENL) has awarded N18, 000.000 in scholarship to 150 indigent undergraduates from communities it operates.


The beneficiaries who are  from Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ogun States and studying at different Universities, Polytechnic in the country on Friday received a cheque of N120, 000 each as scholarship for the 2018/2019 academic session.


Speaking at the Scholarship Awards and Cheques presentation ceremony held at the RENL Osse River site, the Managing Director, Mr. Phillippe Carty said RENL is commited to the development of it host communities, especially in the area of education.


Carty informed that the upward review of N50,000 to N120,000  of this academic session scholarship by the company was meant to meet the current academic reality.


He asserted that despite the harsh economic challenges, the company is  poised to impacting its host communities meaningfully, just as he sued for maximum corporation from members of the communities.


While assuring them of RENL’s continuous commitment,  Carry urged them to try and incorporate youth oriented projects into their community development plan. The company’s managing director, however, tasked the scholarship beneficiaries to be prudent in the usage of the money as well as  being proactive in their endevours.

Earlier, the company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Gabriel Amadin in his brief opening remarks disclosed that  beneficiaries who are from  Iguobazuwa, Udo, Utagbuno and Urhonigbe communities in Edo and Delta states, were been given awarded.  


Mr. Amadin stated that the managing director of RENL, Carty is concern with the educational development  and future of youths in host communities, hence, his unflinching support for development in the areas.
While noting that the scholarship scheme was part of RENL’s Corperate Social Responsibility to its host communities, Amadin expressed optimism that the gesture would no doubt continue to strengthen  the peace and cordial  relationship that currently exist  between the people and the company.

Also, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Iyase Darlington Ikponmwonba , a 300-level Political Science /Public Administration Student, University of Benin commended RENL for the scholarship as well as upgrading the value from N50,000 to N120,000 per annum inspite of the current dwindling in price of rubber in the market.

It will be recalled that 65 students were also given scholarship by RENL during it scholarship awards and cheques presentation in Araromi , Ondo state.
