BENIN CITY – The operatives of the Edo State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS), have paraded two youths for allegedly impersonating the Nigeria Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the wife of the president, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, on the internet.
The two alleged internet fraudsters, Amos Ehis Asuelimen, 30, a student of business administration department, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, and Kelvin Godwin Ogashi, 18 were arrested at Ubiaja town and Old Road, Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State, respectively.
The deputy director, security enforcement of the command Mr Galadima Byanga paraded the suspects before journalists at the DSS Headquarters in Benin City, yesterday.
Amos Ehis Asuelimen of matriculation number FMS/BUS/10/01358 was arrested on July 25, 2019 after he allegedly used the name of the Vice-President to create a fictitious Facebook account with which he defrauded unsuspecting members of the public.
The DSS deputy director also alleged that Kelvin Godwin Ogashi was apprehended on July 26, 2019 having created an Instagram account with the name and picture of the first lady of the federal republic of Nigeria, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari.
The deputy director explained that the suspect’s intention was to swindle unsuspecting members of the public as he pasted a massage on the account that the First Lady was empowering Nigerian youths with cash to start up their businesses.
He was also alleged to have requested interested persons to register with undisclosed sum of money, as his accomplices were now at large.
“Our meeting today, is primarily to brief you, on the two tactical operations carried out by the Command that led to the arrest of two (2) suspected internet fraudsters, that have been using the name of the Vice-President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (GCON) and that of the wife of the President, Aisha Mohammadu Buhari to defraud unsuspecting members of the public over time.
“During interview, the suspects confessed to the crime”. The deputy director explained.
Admitting to have created the accounts, the suspects denied defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with them.
They also denied ownership of the three laptops and six telephone handsets paraded with them.
The deputy director said the two suspects would soon appear in court.
