AS part of activities making its 2019 Anniversary, a Socio-cultural organisation under the aegis of Benin Campus Group, University of Benin on Thursday honoured the Vice Chancellor of the School, Professor Faraday Orumwense with award of excellent cum performance, describing him as great achiever.
The event which was held at the Uniben Indoor Sports Hall attracted dignitaries from home and in the diaspora including the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, Comrade (Sir.) Roland Osakue, former Vice Chancellor of the School, Prof Oyuki Oshodin who was given rousing welcome by guests.
The occasion was electrified by the soul-arresting and ear-pleasing melodious Benin songs from Edo Cultural Group.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Oveseri Abueku said that the yearly event of the Benin Campus Group was put together to celebrate and pray for the progress of members.
He commended members for contributing to the develoment of the Benin race, just as he advised them to shun vices capable of undermine the lefty ideas of the group.
Speaking with Weekend OBSERVER shortly after the occasion, the Coordinator of the Benin Campus Group, Dr. F O. Osadolor said the group is members of people from the Benin extraction who are working in Uniben.
He said that the event was also put together to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, whom he maintained has brought great development to the school.
On the awardees, Dr. Osadolor said that the group decided to honour the awardees for their invaluable contributions to the growth of the association as well as the University.
Some of the awardees include Prof. J. Ehiorobo, Prof. S.N. Ogbomwan, Dr. W.A. Iguodala, Prof. Uyiekpen Ogbeide and Prof. Efosa Oviasun amongst others.
