WARRI – A Police Inspector is said to to have lost his life while trying to rescue some kidnapped victims from the den of suspected herdsmen who had captured them at the Uvwiamuge area of the Ughelli/ Agbarho Expressway in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Confirming the incident via telephone , the Delta State Police Commissioner , Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke , said, the Inspector was reportedly shot dead during a gun duel between the kidnappers and security operatives on Wednesday.

A combined team of security operatives including policemen had invaded a suspected hideout of the gunmen inside a forest around the Uvwiamughe community to free the captured, which included some ofgicials of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC ).

The herdsmen are allegedly operating in the area in connivance with some local community indigenes, attacking commuters and kidnapping victims plying the highway for ransoms.

The corpse of the Inspector simply identified as Mohammad who was declared missing on Wednesday , was later found in the bush on Thursday.

It was the third attack in a month by the hoodlums

The Delta Police Commissioner however, did not say whether any arrest has been made but said, investigation was still on.
