BENIN CITY – Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has urged all civil servants and political appointees in his office to put in a high level of commitment to redefine the state and make it work better.

Speaking at the annual prayer and patise worship session organized by management and staff of the Office of Edo State Deputy Governor to usher in the year 2020, Comrade Shaibu said: “First, I want to thank all of you for the prayer session which has become an annual event in this office. But I did not know that it was going to happen today, none of you hinted me.

This year’s own is like an ambush because it’s a huge surprise to me today. However, I’m happy that you people have kept faith with it. It’s a good thing for us to commit ourselves and our families in the hands of God at the beginning of the year, especially in times like these. God has been faithful to us. He saw us through year 2019 from day one to the end. I want to thank you all for the efforts put in for the state to grow; for your commitment and all we had put in for the office and the state to grow.

I also want to request for your fervent prayers for God to place us on higher grounds in 2020. I also request that your commitment towards uour responsibily this year is higher than that of 2019 because what is key is that we make a difference through our efforts.

Our attitude to make things work is what would make the difference. It is all about work because if you don’t put in your best and work diligently, the state would not progress.

All your little individual contributions last year were felt and that made the difference . This year we need to put in more efforts so that at the end of the day, not only us that would celebrate but the people of Edo State would be better for it.

May God always guide and guard us to do the right thing so that a situation would not arise that when we are out of office and the things we failed to do begin to haunt us.

It is good we do our best so that at the end of the day, when we retire, we would be able to hit our chest and say, ‘if not that I did X, this would have happened now as a direct consequence but because I was able to do that, when I was there, everything is fine.

I think that should be a major thing that should spur us to put in our best in the various offices we meet ourselves. I tell you today, no office

is small, no office is big, it is you that would make your office what you want it to be.

I am making an appeal to you all to put in more effort so that we achieve all our set goals and dreams. We have just prayed for peaceful and successful elections but we forgot to pray for Edo 2020 National Sports Festival which is equally very important to us.

we are hosting the National Sport’s Festival, Edo 2020 which is very critical to us because we are redefining what hosting of sports festivals should look like.

People are looking forward to what Edo State has to give as the home of sports. We have to redefine how sports is run in Nigeria.

We should also put the sports festival into prayer for us to have a successful hosting, those who are directly or indirectly involved shoul be placed in the hands of God for direction, wisdom and protection.

We should look unto God because when we do, there is no amount of challenges or obstacles that you would not overcome.

Obstacles would surely come but they help to toughen us
and open your mind to the other side of life. One good thing is, when they come, that is when you need God to lift you above them, and you conquer.

For me, it is all about God. There is always one verse that always comes to my mind- Isaiah 54 (17). It is very clear. When you think you are fine and you relax, God is not sleeping, he is always there for us.

He consistently looks and watches over you even when people gather against you. Without you knowing, even when you are sleeping, he causes confusion in the camp of those who have gathered against you whereever they are.

For me, I am moving with that armour; that belief that there is no obstacle that is above me because if God is for me who can be above me?

Another thing that would help us is charity. Charity is one thing that can also fill the gaps for any shortcomings in your life.

There are a lot of persons out there struggling for breathe even as we speak, but God gave you breathe, free. You don’t know the cost of breathing. No amount of money can buy it. When you have that opportunity to help people struggling for breathe, please do to help them have stable breathe.

When the time for your own comes, God will bring different persons to come to your aid because there is somebody somewhere who would send people to help you and you end up getting something big from a little thing you did and may have forgotten.

I thank you all for what you have done toda, by the grace of God, we would surely conquer. I pledge to do my best to ensure your welfare despite some shortcomings.”

The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS), Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon. Kingsley Ehigiamusor pledged commitment, loyalty and dedication to work on behalf of staff.

He told the Deputy Governor that “There would be challenges but God will give you the grace to surpass the challenges.”

He however cautioned against bickering and rumour mongering, advising staff to “talk less,” but “See, remain quiet and act.”

Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Helen Obobairibhojie also gave her remarks on behalf of staff.

However, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ebomhiana Musa expatiated from the Bible to give more meaning and life to the Bible verse, Isaiah 54 (17) referenced by the Deputy Governor; advising the staff to adopt it as their anchor for the year.
