BENIN CITY – As the countdown to the 20th Edo 2020 National Sports Festival (NSF) slated for March 22, to April 2, 2020 begins, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu who doubles as Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, (LOC) has led a joint committee on inspection of designated car parks at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The LOC Chairman, who was accompanied by Secretary to Edo State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, Esq with sub committee members drawn from strategic agencies of government inspected designated open spaces that could be converted for use as car parks at 1st Freedom Road, Ogbe Primary School and Ogbe College.

Shaibu mandated the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) led by Dennis Oloriegbe to map out possible parking lots on designated landmass to enable the team know how many cars each carpark can contain. He also told the other relevant government agencies to swing into action along their lines of designated duties at these sites.

Speaking further on this development at 1st Freedom Road, Off Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Shaibu stated, “The Chairman of the committee has identified this place as one of the places that we would be using for parking for the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival.

We are just here to look at the facility with relevant agencies of government to see how we can make it useful inline with what the committee recommended.”

General Manager, Edo State Waste Management Board, Mr. Osadebamen Charles Imhariagbe on his part shortly after the inspection of Ogbe College, off Ogbe Quarters, Benin City, stated, “We have just gone out to see the various venues we are going to use as car parks. We went there with the Deputy Governor.

All of us have been given our designated roles. I am to take care of the waste in these environments. We have long standing heaps of refuse in these places. We are going to swing into action to evacuate these wastes.

We are going to remove those wastes from those areas to ensure they don’t roll back before the events start. We also have adjoining streets where pedestrians will pass. We have also gone to those areas and mapped them out. We are going to be sending our cleaners and sweepers there to sweep and to evacuate them. For us, our work is clearly cut out and we are set to start immediately.

The relevant agencies of government who were led on the inspection by the Deputy Governor were the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, SEEFOR, Ministry of Infrastructure Development, EDSTMA, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Waste Management Board.
